  1. I LOVE these horror movies that don't take themselves too SERIOUSLY but aren't complete satires or parodies. They're a DELIGHT in a cinematic world or universe of unhumorous psychopathic slayers, cannibals, dream invading phantoms, etc. I would LOVE to HAVE that genealogy chart – or AT LEAST a COPY !

  2. I've watched this a number of times but only now, watching the meeting of Price and Carradine in a deserted alley, it strikes me as heavily queer coded, with Vincent Price initiating Carradine into the queer subculture, though without "turning" him first… hmmm 🧐

  3. The movie is a right of passage for most 80s kids! All 80's monster kids watched this movie at some point in their childhood! I first discovered The Monster Club on Thriller Video with Elvira from 1985.

  4. I saw this in the 80’s. It was the featured film on The Big Chuck and Little John Show. If you’re from Northeastern Ohio, you’ll be familiar.

The vampire segment has unmistakable references to films like Nosferatu, which played on the theme of blood libels of antisemitism. Notice the Klezmer music – Jewish folk violin. Entertaining but obviously not ideal in its suggestions. But that’s history.

The Ghoul Village is a favorite. It’s so short and simple yet so unique and entertaining.

  5. A short while after the first time I saw The Monster Club, I visited the Chicago Zoo. I have no idea if it's still there, but there was one spot with bars over the promised visage of the most potentially savage beast to be found. The bars were over a mirror.

  6. I bought the soundtrack to this film at a used record store long before I'd seen the movie. I've been a collector of movie. music since I was ten. Nice to finally see the film. Well done horror cinema and a fun romp. Great to finally connect the score with the movie.
